Information On Buying Cuban Cigar
Cuban cigars are the most famous in the world for their smooth, rich flavors. Unsuspecting cigar enthusiasts are often caught out by fake cigars sold to them by unscrupulous dealers cashing in on that fame. The best way to ensure you do not end up buying fakes is to purchase them from a legitimate dealer. Shopping from your local tobacconist or a reputable mail order business can protect you from spending your money on a box of fake cigars.
If you have an opportunity to purchase a box of purported Cuban cigars, but have your doubts, take the time to examine the box before purchasing it. Using that information, here are some facts about identifying the genuine cigars from the fakes you would do well to learn. The most important thing to examine is the box itself, as authentic Cuban cigars will have a green and white warranty seal on the left front side of the box, this seal will contain an insignia that has a picture of a shield and a hat. You should also see the word ‘Habanos’ printed on a white sticker affixed diagonally on the upper right corner of the cigar box; be wary if it isn’t.
Also watch out for a box that has any type of damage, printing smudges or if the box looks dull because it should be neat, clean and free from any marks. Using a heat stamp the word ‘Habanos’ can also be seen again; this is always found on the bottom of the cigar box. It is not unusual for fake Cuban cigar boxes to have this mark on them where a paper label or a rubber stamp has been used. The box can also tell you where and when the cigars were rolled by means of a factory code stamp on the base of the box in black, green or blue ink.
The cigars may have been damaged in transit even if the box wasn’t so it is worth examining them as well. If you are given the opportunity, smell the Cuban cigars as they should have a rich, deep aroma that a cigar enthusiast will find seductive. You will know immediately if the Cuban cigars are fakes because that distinctive smell will not be present or it will be very weak. The cigars should be facing the same way, and the top row may appear slightly flattened.
All the cigars should have caps and bands that look identical and the foot of each cigar has been cleanly cut. Try, if possible, to examine the texture of the cigars as they should be firm but pliable and uniform in their feel. Armed with this information you shouldn’t be ‘ripped off’ when you buy your first or next box of Cuban Cigars.
