Halloween In America
When we think of Halloween in America there are many traditions associated with this and the most common one will be the Halloween Costumes tradition, which has European, and Celtic roots. These people believe that wearing masks and coming out on that night will make ghosts to avoid them, which are known as Samhain. They also place food in bowls outside the house for ghosts in order to avoid them inside the home and this is a kind of trick, which is followed from very long. Even there are beggars in Ireland who would demand for food and money from the rich one in fear of “evil spirits” as pretending to avoid them in entering the house.
So, the costumes are very important in this celebration as if people have to believe on the evil spirit people have to dress themselves in Halloween costume, which means a weird costume. The legend of Jack-o-lantern started actually with a person who was a drunkard and also a very practical joker
Jack made a devil to climb the tree. He then drew an image of the cross on the tree trunk, which made the devil to settle on the highest branches of the tree. So, Jack then made a deal with that devil saying that if he would never make him angry or tempt him again, he will let him down. So it is said after Jack died he was not allowed into heaven because of his evil ways and even not into the hell as he made the devil to settle on the tree. Instead of that the devil gave Jack a light, which will be helpful for him in cold and dark forever. Jack placed that light into a hallowed-out turnip, which made it be lit longer. When these Irish people came to America, they found pumpkins plenty, making the pumpkin the official Jack-o-lantern.
